The publication of the first Joint Clinical Assessment marks a major milestone in the implementation of the European HTA Regulation and an important achievement for European cooperation in the field of health technology assessment.
After years of preparation and collaboration among Member States, the first joint clinical assessment at European level has been completed and made publicly available. It will serve as a common scientific basis to support national HTA processes and decision-making on access to health technologies.
This first tangible outcome demonstrates that the new European HTA system is now a reality. Through joint clinical assessments, the HTA Regulation aims to reduce duplication of work across Member States, strengthen the quality and consistency of assessments, and contribute to more efficient and timely access to innovation for patients.
The implementation of the Regulation is also progressing through another important milestone: in June, the first selection process for medical devices to be considered for future Joint Clinical Assessments at European level will begin. This marks a particularly significant moment, as it represents the practical start of the application of the HTA Regulation in the field of medical devices and opens a new phase of European cooperation in an area characterised by high levels of innovation and specific methodological challenges.
Thanks to its specific expertise in the field of medical devices, Agenas has contributed to the development of the new European HTA framework and will continue to support its implementation through future Joint Clinical Assessments for medical devices.
The publication of the first JCA is not only an important achievement in itself, but also marks the beginning of a new phase of scientific collaboration among European HTA bodies, laying the foundations for an increasingly integrated, efficient and sustainable HTA system for the benefit of healthcare systems and European citizens.
