During the fifteenth meeting of the Health Technology Assessment Coordination Group (HTACG), held virtually on 25 September 2025, Dr. Marco Marchetti, Head of the HTA Unit at AGENAS, was confirmed as Co-Chair of the group for a second three-year term, alongside his Swedish colleague Niklas Hedberg (Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency) and Chair Roisín Adams (National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics, Ireland).

Dr. Marco Marchetti will serve as Co-Chair until 2028, with specific expertise in medical devices.

“The confirmation of Dr. Marco Marchetti – stated Prof. Americo Cicchetti – not only marks another step toward strengthening European cooperation on HTA, but also demonstrates AGENAS’s commitment to contributing to ever more efficient, transparent, and shared health technology assessment for the benefit of patients, healthcare systems, and public decision-makers across EU countries. This renewed appointment also reflects European recognition of the professionalism and dedication that Dr. Marchetti has shown over the years.”

“Being confirmed in this role – said Dr. Marchetti – is an important acknowledgment for Italy and for the work carried out by AGENAS in recent years. The implementation of the European Regulation represents a decisive challenge to harmonize access to health technologies across Member States, and to ensure decision-making processes increasingly based on high-quality comparative evidence.”

Established by Regulation (EU) 2021/2282, the HTACG is the central governance body for implementing Joint Clinical Assessments (JCA) and Joint Scientific Consultations (JSC), which became fully operational across the European Union as of January 2025. The renewal of the mandate reflects HTACG’s appreciation of the work carried out in previous years by Dr. Marchetti, Dr. Niklas Hedberg, and Dr. Roisín Adams, highlighting their consistent, balanced contributions to building a shared European system for health technology assessment.
